Wald Academy is a certified Charter School, which receives majority of its funding from the state of California through its eligibility for Proposition 39, which “introduced in the November 2000 ballot, amended California Education Code (EC) Section 47614, with the intent that public school facilities should be shared fairly among all public school pupils, including those in charter schools”. Therefore, our primary source of funding comes from the state of California, which is primarily used as restricted funds, such as certified faculty salaries, uncertified faculty (Non-teaching), teaching resources and school management, transportation, as well as programs, such as: the English Learners Program and Special Education.

We also receive grant money from the State of California. We are able to maintain and expand our facilities with the State Charter School Facilities Incentive Grants Program. Also, by participating in the Charter Schools Program (CSP), we are awarded funds to advertise and better our establishment.

We also receive parent driven funding as well as community driven funding. Parent driven funding is for each student who is enrolled, we require their parents and/or guardians to sign up and register to eScrip, which is an organization where the parents and/or guardians will register to Walden Academy, their credit card information, and membership accounts to this safe and secure website, so every time they make a purchase at an eligible vendor online or in-person, a certain percentage of the profits will go to our school in order to better their children’s innovative education. We require a pdf copy of Escrip registration along with their child’s online application. View website for more information.

Our community driven fundraiser consists of two events each year: Wald’s Family OctoberFest, and our Annual Spring Carnival. Both events are funded by our unrestricted parent driven funding as well as alumni donations. Our Family OctoberFest, which takes place the third week of October includes food, a pumpkin patch, haystack maze and a plethora of games that everyone in the family can enjoy. Each person purchases a certain amount of tickets which can be used anywhere in the festival besides the places where small local businesses are selling their products. Our Annual Spring Carnival takes place during the first week of May, and includes rented permitted rides as well as food, games and local entertainment. It is based outside and is a great time for family and friends. Both events are staffed with volunteers from the community, parents and the students. Students are strongly encouraged to volunteer in order to better their leadership and management skills.

We also receive generous and muchly appreciated funding from our Wald Academy Alumni Foundation, who received such an incredible education from our institution. They like to give back to the future generations by donating money or resources to our school in order to preserve and further the innovative and unique techniques we use to encourage education.

With the overall funds we make we are able to accept children from low-income families to ensure they have an equal opportunity as every other student.
