Subject Groups

Language (multilingual)

Our school implements an explore & specialize academic journey. During the first two years of school, students are required to take classes from all subject groups to ensure a holistic learning experience and allow them to fully explore their interest and potentials. During the last two years of school, students choose two subject groups they want to specialize in and finish upper division curriculums in these subject groups.

Our school also implements a unit-system where academic classes offered by school accounts for 4 units, decals and extracurricular activities accounts for 2-3 units. Students are required to accomplish at least 14 units per semester (roughly equivalent of 4 classes). In the first two years, students are required to complete 2 classes from each subject group. And in the last two years, students are required to pick 2 subjects groups and complete 3-4 classes from each subject group.

Goal: Foster interdisciplinary projects, increase diversity within curriculum and encourage hands-on learning experiences.
Examples of projects within each subject group:

Decal Program

Goal: Allow students to share their knowledge and gain leadership skills.

Through Decal programs, students could create a class that counts for academic units. Directors of each Decal program gain extracurricular activity credits and students attending the Decal program gain academic credits.

Mentorship Program

Goal: To promote better understanding of subject by receiving help from peer-tutors.

Our Mentoring Program is run by one faculty facilitator and peer tutors for all main subjects in the curricula as well as more specified courses that are higher in demand. It is a voluntary but also highly recommended program that all students are encouraged to partake. Students who volunteer will be able to earn volunteer hours which will be signed off by the official facilitator in order for the student to add to their college application and/or resume. It is also a chance to receive a letter of recommendation for students who are professional, helpful and extremely enthusiastic.

This program is designed for students who already understand the material to master it through another outlet: teaching, whilst building trust and a community among the student body. But more importantly, it’s a support system for students who feel they are behind or aren’t prepared for a course, so they can feel confident enough to contribute during class and obtain their highest potential.
